There are many avenues which you can take to become a joiner. You do not need any qualifications, but you will want some experience. You can do an apprenticeship. This is the most common avenue that people tend to take. There are different apprenticeships that you can choose from, they tend to be offered by employers through schemes. What usually happens is that you spend time during the week in college learning and then the rest of your time is spent getting first-hand experience. Apprentices tend to make a lower wage than fully qualified joiners, this will last about 2-3 years. However, it is worth it because of all the experience you are gaining.
Another avenue that you can take is further education. These courses tend to not be free but there are plenty of financing options that you can take. These courses offer you the work experience that employers look for, the reason for this is because it shows that you have the knowledge plus the practical experience.
It can take a couple of years to become a fully qualified joiner, but it will be worth it, as joinery is one of those jobs where there is constantly work to complete.
